Yaz News - Yaz Trials Delayed
It has been reported that the first Yaz trial involving a pulmonary embolism side effect injury has been delayed by the Federal judge presiding over that case. The judge has ordered the parties to meet with a court appointed special master in an attempt to settle the lawsuit.
Professor Salzburg of George Washington School of Law has been appointed to serve as Special Master to mediate the Yaz lawsuits.
Thus far, 10,000 lawsuits have been filed against Bayer, the manufacturer of Yaz and Yasmin for injuries including pulmonary embolisms, strokes, deep vein thrombosis and even death. The reason for the high frequency of side effects is because of the active ingredient known as drospirenone, which is a type of progestin which experts believe increases side effects which include venous thrombosis (VTE) (blood clots), pulmonary embolisms (blood clots in the lung) and other related side effects.
