Side Effects

Many Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella users have experienced serious side effects, mostly as a result of one of its primary ingredients, drospirenone. Drospirenone is a synthetic progestin that suppresses ovulation as well as acts like a diuretic to prevent weight gain. However, particularly in users with liver, kidney and adrenal gland problems, drospirenone can lead to fluid loss, which raises levels of sodium in the bloodstream. In turn, high levels of sodium can cause hyperkalemia, or abnormally high levels of potassium in the blood. This potassium overload can lead to a host of serious conditions, including:

- Deep vein thrombosis
- Pulmonary embolism
- Bloog clots
- Cardiac arrhythmias
- Strokes
- Heart Attacks
- Liver damage
Also, about 70 percent of our clients have experienced gallbladder problems. Drospirenone can increase the level of cholesterol in bile, which is stored in the gallbladder. This fattier bile impairs gallbladder function by increasing the risk for gallstones and pancreatitis. Many of our clients have had their gallbladders removed, which can result in scarring and other serious long-term effects.
